Why is my Amaze page loading slowly?

If your Amaze page takes longer than a few seconds to load, you could be experiencing slow page load speeds. This could be caused by a number of things outside of Amaze’s control. The most frequent culprits for a sluggish page, as well as solutions, are outlined below.

Size and quantify of media files

Large image and video files and the cumulative size of images and videos are the number one reason why Amaze pages load slowly. Below are some practices for using media files in your Amaze project to help improve page load time.

Image best practices

  1. Compress images to reduce file size using an image compression tool like TinyPNG. Smaller media files load faster, so you can save a substantial amount of time by compressing all of your videos.
  2. Use vector images when possible
  3. Resize and scale images to the exact dimensions you need before you save and export them
  4. Use the correct image format (.jpg, .png, .gif etc.)

Video best practices

  1. Use an online video converter to convert your video files to MP4 using a tool online-convert.
  2. Compress videos using a tool like clideo or Wondershare Online Uniconverter. We strongly recommend limiting the size of your videos to 5MB, but be careful not to sacrifice video quality too much during compression. When using multiple videos, the cumulative size of all videos should not exceed 30MB.
  3. Remove unnecessary audio. If you have a hero video with the audio muted, you can remove the audio data using a video editing tool or FFmpeg to reduce the size of the video.

Number of screens

The more screens your page has, the longer it will take to load. We generally recommend limiting projects to no more than 10 screens, although you may be able to get away with more or less depending on the size and quantity of media files.

Network problems

Your Amaze page could load slowly because your network connection is slow or intermittent. Below are a few ways to test your network connection.
  1. Try loading your Amaze page using a free online proxy server. If your page loads normally through a proxy server but slow for you, then you’ve identified a network problem.
  2. If you are located outside of North America, try having someone from inside the United States or Canada test your Amaze page. If it loads fast for them but slow for you, then you’ve identified a network problem.
  3. Send a link to your site to support@Amaze.co so we can test it on our end. If the site loads fast for us but slow for you, you’ve most likely got a network problem.

Not enough bandwidth

High website traffic is another reason for a website loading slow. The amount of visitors that a site can handle is determined by its bandwidth. Bandwidth is a technical term that means how much information an Internet connection can handle in any given amount of time. If you are self-hosting, contact your hosting service to update your bandwidth.

Issues with your hosting services

If you’re self-hosting your Amaze page, your web hosting service provider makes a huge difference when it comes to page load speed. If you have a bad hosting service and your website loads slowly, valuable, paying customers could bounce from your site. In that case, consider investing more of your budget into a hosting service that guarantees fast load time for users.
